Student Apprentices Advance in ACE Lineman School
(January 23, 2006)
A Board of Director’s meeting for the ACE (A Career in Energy) Lineman Training School was held in the beginning of January to review the coursework and tests of Dusty Stump and Jake Stewart. Two semesters’ worth of assignments for the Student Apprentices – written tests, field tests, and final exams at the affiliate school (Utah Valley State College) – were passed with flying colors.
Two of the 5 program members returned in the fall as seniors at Star Valley High School and should return this summer to resume their participation in the program. Toby Merritt, a recent high school graduate and the 5th member of the program and current Student Groundman, can apply as a Student Apprentice this summer.
ACE will be the area training school for the energy industry focused on exceptional educational opportunities, career development, safety, and commitment to excellence. The vision of the program is to continually seek the opportunity to teach, train, develop, and expand the educational opportunities of those seeking a rewarding career in the energy industry. Bill Spaulding hopes to see the school become a regional entity and wishes to see participation from surrounding organizations such as the Wyoming Rural Electric Association and the Southeast Idaho Utilities.
Although ACE is a new non-profit business, the program is affiliated with 47 utilities, mainly in Utah, but covering 4 states in the area. The on-campus and home study correspondence course for the Linemen Training Course will be provided by Utah Valley State College.
