ACE Welcomes First High School Students (May 19, 2005)
The ACE (A
Career in Energy) Lineman Training School recently accepted 4 more
students into the program. Derek Astle and Toby Merritt are
Star Valley High School seniors who will be
enrolled as year-round student groundmen. After a year of training they
can apply for a 4-year, 8000-hour scholarship to train as Student
Apprentice Lineman with an opportunity to obtain their Journeyman
Lineman certificate, as well as an associates degree in the field. Two
summer intern student groundmen, Vinney Hansen from Star Valley High
School and J.D. DeVeney from Jackson Hole High School, will serve a 2-3
month summer internship before going back to finish their senior year in
high school. These two young men will earn a school credit as part of a
work program in their high school’s School-to-Career program. These
students will begin their training in early June, working alongside
crews at Lower Valley Energy.
The ACE Lineman School is proud to welcome these 4 new students into the
training program that will provide a uniquely rewarding educational and
occupational career opportunity. Additionally, Jake and Dusty, the
school’s first student apprentice linemen, have both successfully
completed their first semester, earning 4.0 GPAs and satisfactory
training progress for the past 4 months.
