Press Release – Linemen to Haiti
Afton, WYOMING (October 31, 2016) – Lower Valley Energy sent Clay Skinner from our Afton district, to Haiti to offer his journeyman lineman skills to the hard-hit country. At the beginning of October, Haiti was hit by Hurricane Matthew, the most devastating storm in over 50 years to hit the area. As of this writing there are estimates that possibly 1,600 people have perished. The storm affected a large portion of the country, destroying parts of Haiti’s infrastructure and electricity grid. Hurricane Matthew caused havoc to a country still reeling from a 7.0 earthquake in 2010 that killed between 45,000-85,000 people.
Skinner will spend 3 weeks in Haiti working. He is accompanied by two other journeyman linemen, Sam Walkowiak from Beartooth Electric in Red Lodge, MT and Jeremy Tysver from Bridger Valley Electric in Mountain View, WY.
Lower Valley Energy, Beartooth Electric and Bridger Valley Electric all belong to the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association (NRECA). As is part of NRECA International’s name, the nationwide organization has brought rural electrification to 43 developing countries. Skinner’s expenses are being paid in part by NRECA International.
