Lower Valley Energy Board Member Honored for Outstanding Service

Afton, WY – Lower Valley Energy’s Board of Director Fred Brog has been recognized for his outstanding service to the electric cooperative industry. Fred recently received the prestigious Outstanding Service Award from the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association (NRECA). This award is granted annually to one board member from each of the 10 regions across the country. The award was presented by NRECA CEO Jim Matheson at the September Regional Meeting, attended by over 400 industry professionals.

Brog’s family has a deep history with electric cooperatives. His father, Ernest Brog, was instrumental in founding Lower Valley Energy in 1937. Ernest recognized the need for electricity to support the region’s agricultural economy and secured a loan from the Rural Electrification Administration to establish the cooperative.

Brog’s dedication to public power extends beyond his local community. He has served on various statewide and national boards, including the Wyoming Rural Electric Association board, the Idaho Cooperative Utilities Association board, the National Rural Utilities Cooperative Finance Corporation board, and the National Cooperative Services Board.

In addition to the NRECA award, Brog also recently received the John M. George Public Service Award from the Northwest Public Power Association. This award recognizes individuals who have made significant contributions to the advancement of public power.
