Teton Village Blowdown – Nine Years Later

PrintThis week marks nine years since one of the most challenging moments in our history – the 2017 Teton Village blowdown. On February 7, 2017, 17 steel transmission poles catastrophically collapsed, leaving a major part of our community in the dark.
What happened next still fills us with immense gratitude and pride.
Within hours, crews from High Plains Power, Fall River Electric, Idaho Falls Power, Bonneville Power Administration, and Wasatch Electric arrived to help. Working around the clock in winter conditions with limited access, these exceptional teams worked around the clock alongside our own crews in challenging conditions, demonstrating the true spirit of the electric cooperative family.
This wasn’t just about replacing poles and restoring power. It was about communities coming together. It was about the unwavering dedication of line workers who left their own families to help ours. It was about neighbors helping neighbors.
To the neighboring utilities, local emergency services, and Jackson Hole Mountain Resort who answered our call for help: thank you. To our community who showed patience and resilience during those difficult days: we are forever grateful. And to our crews who worked tirelessly alongside our mutual aid partners: we couldn’t be prouder.
This anniversary reminds us that we’re stronger together. The power of community has never been more clear.
