If you smell gas, follow the instructions listed below for the appropriate situation.

Indoor gas smell and escaping gas cannot be heard

  • Do not smoke, do not use lighter or matches
  • Do not turn off/on any switches or appliances
  • Ventilate the area, by opening doors and windows

Indoor gas smell and escaping gas can be heard:

  • Do not smoke, do not use lighters or matches
  • Do not turn off/on any switches or appliances
  • Ventilate the area, by opening doors and windows
  • Evacuate building
  • Do not re-enter gaseous area for any reason
  • Keep bystanders away from the affected area

Outdoor gas smell and escaping gas can be heard:

  • Do not smoke, do not use lighter or matches
  • Stop operating all equipment/vehicles
  • Do not enter gaseous area, even to turn off equipment
  • Do not attempt to repair damaged gas facilities
  • Keep bystanders from area

If you suspect Carbon Monoxide is present (symptoms include dizziness, headaches, nausea, or flu-like symptoms):

  • Call 911 if there are unconscious occupants or extreme symptoms
  • Evacuate all occupants from the building
  • Ventilate the area by opening doors and windows
  • Turn off all appliances
